"iwconfig" shows an entry for eth0 with the correct router ESSID name and (I think) all the other correct parameters, but "Link Quality:40" and "Signal level:0" even though the router is all of 5 ft away... "iwconfig eth0 essid any" comes up with the same info.
If you set essid "any", does it find the correct one, or did you set it manually? If the latter, make sure you're on the right channel/frequency.

I tried both-- using "any" gives the same essid/channel pair as when I set it manually. The "Access point" field also picks up the correct hardware address of the router, which I'm sure it didn't get from me...
Incidentally, when I move to another room of the apartment, "iwconfig eth0 essid any" picks up a different wireless router (from another apartment) but it still says "Signal level:0". Sounds like the card is actually working, but something is missing in the network-setup portion.
