I was intentionally generalizing. Am I wrong to state that the main argument that the majority of people put forth for linux is price?

I can't think of any distributions that have been promoting the fact that they are more expensive than Unix/Microsoft. In fact, everyone throws a fit when a TCO study comes out showing linux to be more than other alternatives.

Many people praise Linux primarily because of price, but I don't think
it's safe to generalize in this case. I personally use Linux because of
power and flexibility more than anything else. Low price is great, but
I wouldn't use Windows if it were free--I just don't like it.

Exactly, that was my point I apparently didn't make very well. The arguments for using linux are not what they used to be, but the general noise about linux is based around price when it really shouldn't be anymore. The arguments should be based around the technical merits of linux. It sure feels like the unix days though, just cheaper.... (doh, I mentioned price again.)
