UUGers,

We've been working on a major revision to the SSS cd. We're completely
redesigning the interface (by a professional designer), developing a
quality
assurance/testing process, and organizing all the information such that
the disc can be created automatically from data. We're also including on
the disc all the documentation and tools needed to "roll your own" cd.
We're
really going to have something usefull when we're done.

Interestingly, the direction we're going will result in a product
remarkably similar to the Open CD. In fact, we considered just dropping
the disc in favour of the Open CD, but decided against it, for the
following reasons:
1) our disc already has more software on it than the Open CD does
2) our data organization will make it very easy to update the disc
quickly
3) the disc can be a bit of a missionary opportunity, by generating good
will
for the UUG, BYU and the church.

When we get this next edition ready to go, we're going to try to get
others to
mirror it, as well as coordinating a bit torrent effort, and hopefully
getting
an announcement on slashdot.

When our graphic designer heard of the big plans, he suggested that the
name should be changed, to reflect the focus on a broader audience than
just
college students. Can anyone suggest a new name? Andrew has stipulated
that
it needs to be "catchy" -- and "The Open CD" is taken. :)

Any thoughts?

Dave
