Are you serious? I am opposed to it mainly because I joined this club and participate in it to learn about linux/unix and open source and to help that movement. If I want to do church stuff, I'll do it at church activities. > In fact, it's a moot point. UUG is a BYU club. Unfortunately, you're right. From http://campuslife.byu.edu/policies/display/display.cfm?topic=122 Clubs may be denied sponsorship if they: * Are affiliated with off-campus groups that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints cannot support. * Have serious debt or do not comply with the policies. * Do not follow the Honor Code. * Are not in agreement with BYU and the Mission of BYUSA. > Thus, > since the UUG is NOT a sovereign entity and is, as a matter of speaking, > directly under the jurisdiction of BYU, we ought not to shrink from > implicit or explicit missionary zeal with regards to *anything* the UUG > does. Although, it may not dissuade you in your cause, let me remind you that the UUG does not follow several of the other BYUSA regulations either. I don't know if special arrangements have been made about these things or not. Here are just two examples. http://campuslife.byu.edu/policies/display/display.cfm?topic=96 * The main purpose of all BYUSA clubs is to serve the BYU community. Therefore, each club is required to complete at least one major service project per year in which at least 30% of the total club membership is required to participate. Meaningful Contributions Sheet: the Meaningful Contributions Sheet is a form which must be completed by each club President. In this form you will explain the details of your completed service project, along with how many members served, who they were, and what they did. This form provides a way for BYUSA to reflect on your club experiences and serves as a means for BYUSA to evaluate your event. These forms are located in the BYUSA Clubs area. How to organize a service project: the Jacobsen Center has a great need for volunteers and is also an excellent resource for service project ideas. Clubs may contact the Jacobsen Center at 422-8686. http://campuslife.byu.edu/policies/display/display.cfm?topic=264 * BYUSA Clubs are encouraged to have a website. Websites can be designed by your individual club or, if you need help designing a website, call the BYUSA Web Consultants area at 422-7183. All University standards apply to any pictures, links or words on the website. All club websites must be a part of the University server, not supported by an off-campus server. Contact the BYUSA Technology area (422-4996) to put your website onto the BYU server. I don't know about the rest of you and I will not even pretend to speak for any one of you, but as for myself, I'm in this club for *nix and open source software alone and, despite what BYUSA or BYU say, I will personally not support and will shun any events or products done by the BYU UUG for purposes other than learning and using *nix and teaching others about it. This includes missionary work. IM(NS)HO, UUG is not the place for that. -- Michael Golden <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
