It isn't a question of ego. The simple fact is that uug-list is a more
than a chance to ask about *nix stuff. It's a community. Some of the
people on this list I wouldn't recognize if the stepped on my foot, but
I consider them friends. You don't just walk away from friends, you say
goodbye. Mike's a good guy and he's given alot to the club, the UUG is
part of who he is and you can't turn your back on that easily.

BTW, that's part of the reason I say that any attempt to enforce on
topic discussion is doomed. As a community, we've collectively defined
what the UUG is. It won't be easy to change that now that many of us are
emotionally committed to the community and our role in it. As far as I'm
concerned, the best thing is simply to revise the description of the
list so people know what they're getting into. That, and help people
realize they don't have to read every message.
