By the way, there are several other simulators that I've worked with. J-Sim (http://www.j-sim.org) and ns-2 (http://www.isi.edu/nsnam/ns) are other open source alternatives that I've worked more with. The latter is probably one of the most complete and most respected simulators around. I pointed you to SSFNet because worms are one of the things that it advertises in its features. All three of these simulators have a bit of a learning curve however. Have fun!
