You might try something like the TG libraries or google for other "traffic
generators" and such. If you find that the ns-2 simulator has the
functionality you need for its simulations, you can make it interact with
your live network by using their NSE functionality.

You may very well need several things running traffic generation to get
the level of traffic you need to cause the meltdown.
