In my quest to find something better than the crappy way I have been
developing web pages, I've been exploring enterprise development
patterns and the various implementations and frameworks that are
available, particularly for java. Currently I'm most impressed with
Tapestry[1] as a templating (view) and application flow (control)
framework. It's simple and very powerful, but still requires a large
amount of busy work to make an app, although good tools like Eclipse[2]
and Spindle[3] help.

Recently, I've also been looking at two PHP frameworks that implement
enterprise patterns. They are WACT[4] (Web Application Component
Toolkit) and PHPTAL[5]. Both of which are cool pieces of software. I
believe that should I stick to PHP, I would definitely start using one
of these frameworks for everything, as they provide so much more
flexibility and maintainability than PHP mess of logic and presentation
that I've created so far.

My question is has anyone on this list had experience with these
templating frameworks in PHP? Can you give pros and cons regarding the
use of these frameworks, and using them as opposed to java? Clearly
there still is no security framework with either php choice. That would
probably have to be implemented within PHP itself.
