Don't have time to review Michael's outlook on this authentication, but
it is possible to create a net ID to access the network with. No reason
to publicize the details, but if you want to run that insecure script,
you don't have to worry about somebody grabbing your password out of
some script on your computer, which by the way, is a less likely
scenario than them grabbing it with spyware on a compromised public
computer. And I'm sure a significant ratio of average machines on
campus are compromised from what I've seen looking at my user's computers.
