Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it only based on how much you make, not how much you save? I didn't like that much either. I would make a little more than would allow me to qualify for pell grants as well. Once the cycle is begun, it's begun - earn a lot and you darn well better save.

FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

Fafsa will pay for pretty much all of school if you're poor. I had to
pay books and $180 for insurance this semester, and Fafsa covered the
rest.  It helps to not be supported by parents, and to not have made
much last year.

What if I'm an industrious, hardworking student who makes (slightly) better than average grades, and actually saves a few dollars here and there? The beef I have with Pell Grants is that I get *less* money because I'm trying to save, than if I were to simply blow all my earnings on the latest toy.
