I have a Thinkpad 380E, but for the life of me (and for the 4 or 5 tutorials I've tried), I can't get it to play an 'ogg' audio file with either ogg123 or mpg123.
When I run the command 'ogg123 name_of_song.ogg' I get... Audio Device: OSS audio driver output Playing: name_of_song.ogg Ogg Vorbis stream: 2 channel, 44100Hz Title: [not set] Artist: Unknown Genre: Unknown Date: 0 Album: [not set] Track number: 1 Error: Cannot open device oss. ... I can give the output of any other command that you guys want me to run. I really don't know where to start in explaining the problem other than that, since I'm running through the tutorials I've found semi-blind. I've run the alsaconf utility a bajillion times, but I don't really know what it does. I've enter a ton of commands that start with 'modprobe', but again - I'm too new to this to have a clue yet. What can I do to get sound 'working' ? (I say 'working' since it beeps at me when I boot, so there's obviously sound - just not the kind I'm wanting.) I can post the spec sheet on the 380E if it would help. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help me get this working... -Rich -------------------- BYU Unix Users Group http://uug.byu.edu/ The opinions expressed in this message are the responsibility of their author.
