Have you searched Versiontracker.com? It's my first stop when I need some OSX software. Try searching for "NNTP" -- that's the kind of news you're wanting to read, right? There are 11 pieces of software listed when I search for NNTP. I don't use newsgroups though, so I can't vouch for the quality of any of them. Note that Versiontracker doesn't differentiate between "Free" and "free". Most (but not all!) of the software listed as freeware is actually OSS.
