Recently I attempted to look to print to the campus BW queue but found
no instructions for Linux. I attempted to install the client, as well
as using a previous Macintosh setup converted for my Linux box.
Although I had some possibility to print directly to specific
printers, I could not figure out a way to print to the public queue
offered unless I was running Windows under VMWare.
So then, I searched on Google to see if anyone had any better ideas.
There it was by Ryan Cox from UUG and it worked beautifully. Sent a
job, and it was there at the public printing station.
I am writing the list to see if we can get people together and get OIT
to keep these instructions or place them online. I would be willing
to add a tutorial after finals are over, but alas I feel as if the
solution would not be considered or posted due to their policies
covering Windows and some Macintosh support limitations. I am so glad
we have a Mac and a Unix users group to solve these problems, but how
could we go and get it on OIT's Web site so that people aren't forced
to just download clients and use them on Windows/Mac. I further like
the Linux way because I didn't need a client at all! It should likely
work on Macs too without the client.
The tutorial was at the following sites:
