I'm finally getting a Wii (yay!). Any suggestions on the best (and
most economical) way to get one?
As far as I know, all retail stores that sell the Wii are contracted to sell it at the same price.

I haven't noticed any pricing difference between various places that sell the Wii, games, or accessories. That doesn't mean that there aren't any.

Toys R Us seemed to have a decent variety and quantity-- my wife and I wanted a second guitar hero guitar controller for the wii. Everywhere we went said they had never seen them or that they thought that you could only get a second guitar if you were alright paying for the game/guitar combo. Toys R Us had a stack of the guitars for the wii without the game.
We're looking for the cheapest way to get the Wii itself, and extra
controller and nunchuck, Wii Fit and some combination of (Wii Sports,
Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Boom Blox, Mario Party 8) and (the plastic
shells for wheels, etc.). Not everything at once, but $400-500 worth.
If you get mario kart, save your money for additional plastic shells-- it isn't that different than playing without them. Focus your funds on the other games/accessories. Wii Sports comes with the Wii. I highly suggest Mario Galaxy. I was a little disappointed with the battle mode for Mario Kart. I loved the Zelda game. We want to get Wii fit before too long.

Unfortunately, they still haven't broken into the wii to run linux on it-- pity. It's decent hardware for the money.

Have fun!
