Hello,

Something I've noticed when using ssh between on and off campus is that my connections will drop after being inactive for a short period of time. I've noticed this when sshing from the CAEDM labs and the Computer Science department. It happens no matter where I ssh to (home, slicehost, sdf, etc...) I also experience the problem when sshing into the CAEDM labs or CS Department from anywhere off campus. CAEDM to CS and vice versa doesn't seem to be affected. My ssh connections also don't seem to drop if they are connected through a VPN. If I have a long job running that outputs things, that seems to be enough activity to keep it from timing out. When I ran gentoo at home, I could run an emerge without worrying that my connection would drop while it was compiling. I ran it in a screen session most of the time anyway.

So-- my question is: What is OIT doing to screw with our SSH connections, and how can we prevent this? I've tried the TCPKeepalive option, but it didn't seem to help.

Thanks!
