I set up this lvm before that myth feature came out. Well, at least before it came out to debian. Even still, lvm eliminates wasted space on disk boundaries, not that that is huge. Say you have 3 disks, you waste on average avg-showsize*3/2, or you would have room for 1.5 more shows to record.
