Is that still true even? As far as I know, msysgit[1] works great on Windows, and there's also a Cygwin version for those so-inclined. The msysgit project is very active, but its issue tracker only has 10 open issues (apparently 507 have been resolved). So it looks like the Windows version is in very good shape.
