Guys,
At first I thought it was my imagination but it has happened twice this week.
I'm cruising along in forth gear, steady speed, relatively high rpm (can't
remember speed or rpms, but I'll look closer next time), and when I whack the
throttle, the bike accelerates hard, then the rpms jump, almost like it's
slipping out of gear. No mechanical sounds other than high rpm motor noise.
Reducing the throttle re-engages the drivetrain. Is this indicative of the
clutch going out? Is it gear-specific or will it slip in every gear, under hard
acceleration? Or is something REALLY BAD happening in the tranny? Assuming
that it is clutch-related, can I continue to ride w/o damaging the bike until
winter?
The bike is an '85, with 9,600 miles, recently resurrected (last ridden in '91).
I have not gone into the motor, other than change the oil and filter, bolt on
some carbs, and change the plugs.
BTW, I might be the newest VMOA member at 1371.
Thanks in advance,
Kevin Winters
