I've got the VTAC unit on my 99 max.  It works great
and has some tricks up it's sleeve.  It has a built in
power shift function which cuts the ignition at a pre
programmed (by you) level for 40ms.  If you load the
gear selector with your foot you can make lightning
changes without rolling off the power.  You need to
speak to Norman at VTAC who could not be more helpful.
 He is prepared to spend time discussing your
requirements and he has supplied me with several
different software  versions to try on my max.  He
races bikes for a living so he knows what he is about.
The unit works great on my bike and the install is
very simple.  There are connections to + and - 12volts
along with a simple connection to the timing pick up
lead.  The revs are monitored by an inductive coupling
on any one of your HT leads.  Took me about half an
hour to fit and looks factory fitted.  I initially set
the unit to limit at 5K rpm in order to confirm
correct operation and I now run it at 9.5K rpm with no
worries.
