Hmm.  On the plastic part of the flange, there should be a couple small
flat spots or tabs opposite of each other.  Try a piece of wood cut to fit
that'll wedge in tight between those spots that you can also attach the
the fabricated handle to.  It sounds like you have the same set-up
that mine had. 
 
I should mention tho, that I removed my flange after the tank was out
of the trailer.  The floor was so rotted around the toilet that I did not
need to remove the flange prior to removing the tank.

Jimbo                                                                                Metal flange that toilet bolts to is loose,plastic flange that fits on top of  this and goes down into tank is whats causing problem.If its glued I've got a problem.Floor will have to be cut out, hard to believe they installed tank then floor then glued flange in place,although stranger things have happened.If I can remove shroud around tank from beneath I may have  a chance of patching leak. If not,back to drawing board.Does tank have straight inlet from top with just one  flange,mine has inlet with black hard plastic flange then metal flange under this that bolts to floor.                                    Bill                                                                                67 GT
