It might be possible to make a Vala interface for Smoke[1] and use that for interacting with Qt objects. There might be a small amount of C++ code needed to interface with smoke, but everything else could be done through Vala proxy objects. Apparently the Ruby bindings for Qt use Smoke in conjunction with Ruby's C api, so that might help the OP in his quest. Definitely since Qt in C++ it's much much harder to write a nice, small language wrapper. There used to be a C wrapper for Qt, but I can't seem to find any trace of it anymore.
