I suppose that's possible. Since you can open the map in a paint program, the difference would be in the way that the Java VM stores the images in memory, maybe? How much video RAM do you have? Also, here's something you could do that could point us to the problem: Try some versions of VASSAL which are older than the one you started with, and see if you have the same problem with those. -- J.
