Not sure, but you can always try with the latest VASSAL version and see.
Sometimes modules are not forward-compatible with VASSAL version bumps, but
usually only if they include custom Java code.

If you use the version-specific link (
http://www.vassalengine.org/ws/vassal-2.8.jnlp) it'll create a shortcut for
that specific version, which will not update automatically.
