Ah, the version-mismatch message may be useful info - it hadn't been 
clear to me if this was a real versioning problem, or just cosmetic on 
the splash screen.

It looks like the JAR files on the web site (the 'Linux version', from 
which the Mac version is built) have not been updated to 2.9.9, and 
hence the Mac version claiming to be 2.9.9 is still 2.9.8.

Any dev-folks listening and can get the 2.9.9 JARs up there for 
download, not just web-start?
