VASSAL is definitely slower to restore than other apps when I leave it idle and then go back to it. I have another machine with 1 GB of RAM that I can try and see if I get a performance difference. I just didn't think that VASSAL modules would be that resource intensive. Regards, Jeff George

What's happening when you minimize VASSAL and then run other apps is that the memory VASSAL was using is being paged out to virtual memory, i.e., it's being moved from RAM to disk. When you restore VASSAL, at minimum what was written to disk has to be read back into RAM. If you haven't closed those other apps, then your computer might also need to move the memory they're using from RAM to disk to make room first. With only 512MB RAM, you're probably forcing all of the memory VASSAL is using out of RAM when you run something else. -- J. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
