Thanks for the replies.  I would be happy to add my requests to this 
Sourceforge site, but I didn't know if I had the "approval" to do so.  I 
thought (apparently incorrectly) that use of this site was only for the VASSAL 
developers.  If you would like, I can add these requests to the list.

I deeply appreciate the job you guys do in supporting VASSAL.

  I appologize for being short with you---that wasn't intentional. I do see
  the utility of these. I think they would be fairly easy to implement. That
  makes them a good project for someone who wants to start writing some code.
  I'm always happy to offer advice about that. For my part, I'm not working
  on anything new until I finish the projects I've already started. Possibly
  you could lobby Rodney or Brent for them.

  I wouldn't assume that you requests are being ignored just because you
  didn't get a reply---I save every email that contains a feature request,
  for the express purpose of having a record of what people wanted the
  next time I'm looking for something to implement. Your original message
  is #249 in that folder.

  It would help also if you added your request to those at our Sourceforge
