VirtualBox implements (if Everest is to be believed):
Intel 82801HBM ICH8M SATA AHCI Controller.

This intel driver should work:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18859&lang=eng

Search for this and other Intel drivers here:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx?lang=eng

You could even add the SATA controller first, then use the Intel Driver Update
Utility (from the search page above) which should
find the correct driver for you.

What worked for me (Windows 2000) was:

- Install a SATA controller and add a temp VDI drive to it, but leave the
existing IDE boot drives as they are.
- Boot the VM and run the Intel driver software.
- Reboot VM.
- Shutdown VM, reassign C: VDI file from IDD controller to SATA controller.
- Boot VM, press F12 @ VirtualBox boot splash screen and select new SATA drive
to boot from.
