There has been a surge of recent reports about "high cpu usage" involving the Linux kernel, Java, and also MySQL. It turns out, apparently, that it´s been caused by improper handling of the "leap second" introduced last June 30th, and a "race condition". I wonder if perhaps VBox has been bitten by this bug, too. Just shooting in the dark here... no proof on my side that this has been the case, but an avenue worth exploring. Do a web search on "leap second linux fix" + "high cpu usage" and you´ll find plenty of explanations about this issue. Even Mozilla´s servers were hit by this problem. Just worth keeping in mind if you run Linux systems and found this problem in he last few days...
