After reading what happens with the leap second, I am sure my problem has 
nothing to do with that problem. The high CPU load only occurred when a 
VirtualBox process was running. Stopping that process brings the CPU load back 
to normal. Starting the process again, the load is high again. But now after a 
reboot all is back to normal.
