Two considerations: (ok, maybe 4)
1. The virtualization software that comes with Linux (KVM etc) AFAIK does
NOT load until you actually run it.
2. The space used is minimum (at least compared to the big disk space hogs
on a Linux distro which are the desktp manager (Gnome/KDE etc) and the bulk
of the system libs...
3. Just do a minimum Linux install (most distros provide an "advanced"
install option that lets you choose which packages to install, ie if you´re
going to use the linux guest just for development or productivity apps you
can safely deselect all daemons-services like sendmail, apache etc) rather
than install the default selection of packages and then start removing
stuff (which is doing things backwards, imho :)
