Also check some of the basics on the printer to make sure it has ink, etc., and that none of the service lights indicate a problem.
When you connected the usb 2.0 driver button, did you also create a filter to specify this particular device? When doing so, you should have seen a green cross on the usb connector and, clicking it, it would display all the presently attached USB devices on your host. Also, the Help file said that when your guest is properly configured with a usb device, this device should no longer be available to the host after you have started the guest. Is that what you observed when starting the guest? I mean, did the host (I am not a Mac user) indicate that it now no longer had control of the device? Perhaps an audible beep about a lost connection?
