Regarding the VBoxGuestAdditions - The Guest Additions come with the Extension pack that you installed after the VBox install. Load the GuestAdditions by going to the VBox menu and select Devices and select “Insert Guest Additions CD Image.” It will then be available in Ubuntu on the CD drive. Before you let it run read the VBox Manual about the update process for the Kernel. With out doing those steps the kernel will not compile with the guest additions changes when you apply the guest additions.
Don’t know if the above is your problem, but the Auto Resize Guest works fine here with Yosemite and Ubuntu 14.04.
