The VBoxGuestAddions is installed in the guest os (Ubuntu in your case).
 You'll need to mount the ISO in your guest and run the installer from
there. (I think you can run from the command line a .sh file to install,
maybe install.sh or something like that).

This will compile kernel modules so you will need the build-essential
package and kernel headers if you don't already have them installed (in
Ubuntu).

The GuestAdditions provide some drivers for video, mouse etc for the
guest os so it can respond to things like Resize Display and such.

You should be able to find a tutorial by searching something like
"install virtualbox guest additions ubuntu" or similar.

Once you get it installed, you should be able to run Ubuntu in a window
or full screen as if it's installed directly on your Mac :)
