My bad on the path to the log file. I use the guest additions provided
in debian for a while now, and forgot the log file name used by the
oracle guest additions installer.

Is your guest running in full screen mode? That can prevent the mini
menu from displaying. Whatever the reason, pressing host+home should
bring it up for you. Does that work?
