Dear Ron,

checking and unchecking this option has no impact on the definition, just as toggling full screen option has no effect.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Did you make sure that the "Auto-resize Guest Display" option in the VBox View menu is checked?

Dear Tom,

thanks for your suggestion - but the host has the correct video resolution, the problem is with the guest.

What if you use xrandr in the host to force the video resolution? Something
like this:

xrandr --output LVDS --auto --output VGA-0 --mode 1920x1200 --right-of LVDS

Dear Christoph,

thanks for your help - I'm afraid using the <Host> - F and other options
has no impact. I connected an external monitor, and it wouldn't
recognise the appropriate resolution of that either (1920x1200), so I am
starting to think that this may have to do with the combination of
KUbuntu 17.04 and VirtualBox 5.1.22. But I don't want to go back to
previous distributions/versions just to make VB work - if there is a
bug, presumably it will have to be resolved. If there is a solution, it
would be nice to work out what it is! I have Virtualbox 5.0.26 on
KUbuntu 16.04, on a different PC, which works perfectly.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi,

I have the dame problem with my dell xps13 which provides a bigger
resolution than virtualbox capabilities.

No way for me too.

Either virtualbox is abble to, either we have to search another
emulator.

Patrice.
to both of you: What happens on <Host Key>-F (Fullscreen)? Wait a
moment until the picture is adjusted!
((<Host Key> defaults to the Crtl-Key on the right side.))
In some cases I finally reached my goal by cycling thru the "view"
options (<Host Key>-F, -C, -L). Each of them is a toggle.

      Dear all,
            I am using VirtualBox 5.1.22 on a Lenovo X1 Carbon 5th
      generation, which
is running KUbuntu 17.04. The screen resolution is 2560x1440.
I have created two virtual machines, one with Win7 and the other
      with
Win10, but neither will adapt to the resolution of the laptop
      (neither
in terms of proportions, nor size), despite having successfully
      installed the guest additions.
All attempts to condition the VMs have failed. At the end of the
installation, the desktop of the VMs appears small and
      surrounded by a
black margin to the right and below. I have tried the
File-Environment-Display settings, auto resize guest, using
      VBoxManage
setextradata, etc. but none of these works.
It is possible to increase the resolution a little, but this setting
does not persist, and is never in line with the actual
      resolution. In
the Win10 machine, the cursor is also widely misaligned, making it
difficult to even change screen definitions etc.
            Any thoughts?
