It was Solaris 10 11/06 x86. I downloaded it from here:

I downloaded two of Sun's Solaris virtual machines for VMware: Solaris 10 
update 3 and Solaris Express Developer Edition. Both of them worked "out of 
the box" with networking. The latter is a very nice package, BTW.
