Thank you for your Reply guys:

I can surf the internet, etc from my guest (Ubuntu 6.06). I cannot ping any
computer on my office network. Your responses lead me to a couple of
questions:

1. I've read the sections on the different types of virtual box network
connections in the users guide for Virtual Box, but I'm a little confused on
what setting up a bridge does. Can someone explain that?

2. I'm very familiar with Samba, but from what you guys have told me so far,
Samba won't let me see my office network workgroup unless I've set up this
bridge connection. Is that correct?

3. Does anyone out there in VirtualBox land done what I'm attempting to do?

that is ... you have an XP host, a Linux guest, and you have setup
networking / virtualbox connections so that you can browse computers
physically connected to the XP host computer's peer to peer windows network.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Hi Greg. Have you tried any network configuration yet? It's unclear from
the message. If you're starting from scratch, I'd point you to the
VirtualBox user guide, specifically section 5.3.3.1 for setting up a
bridged connection. Once you've got it to where you can ping other hosts on
the network from the guest and vice versa, you'll need to install/configure
Samba on the guest to get it working with the MS workgroup. (Samba works
over a bridged connection, right guys?)
