You need to create a filter for the USB you device you are trying to
use before seeing it on the Guest.

No need to usa Samba to access the shared folders. When using a linux
guest AND installing the guest additions you get a new filesystem
type, that you can use to mount the shared folders.

But, put simple, on the Linux VM all you need is this: mount -t vboxsf
<sharename> <mountpoint>
