Well... My mail server is (obviously) a publicly accessible server. I
sent the mail from my home box (using Netscape mail, which is set up so
that the From: headers and so on point to my public email address,
[EMAIL PROTECTED]) through my ISP's SMTP servers. My mail server is
not involved until my ISP's SMTP server sends my message to it, hence
(from the header):

Thanks for your response... I'll continue probing. When I sort it out,
I'll post the solution for the benefit of anyone else with a simlar
problem...
