I have setup .htaccess and put the <directory> in apache. Basically, everything was followed from the INSTALL. Any thoughts?
Does Apache ask you about your username and password or is he ignoring your .htaccess?

sorry about that... Apache is not prompting for UID & PW...just goes right to the error. I am running qmailadmin and sqwebmail on the same box...they are working great.

Maybe you should check the AllowOverride options in httpd.conf
