The reason I say merging is the most important feature is that it
seems to take the most advantage of a GUI-based program (otherwise
we'd be using the command line).  If you've got only a few people then
it would make sense for everyone to work on their working copy
straight from the trunk and commit as necessary; however, large-scale
changes I usually keep in a whole separate branch and merge back with
other developers aware of the bold changes.
