We've had fish kills here on the stocked trout on the Guadalupe river in Texas that were attributed to fire ant queen hatches. Too much formic acid kills them.

Chuck,
Do the gills eat the fire ants if you toss them in (via a shovel)?
I've done research and some believe some fish are turned off to ants because of the high levels of formic acid. Others say the acid in a fish's stomach is stronger and breaks the formic acid down. I know all about them fire ants. It was a secondary reason my dad moved to Wyoming (leading our move). He was very allergic to fire ant bites- would go into shock.

Flies from the Ant swap arrived yesterday in Bama. All looked
great (cept for that Alexander guy's flies LOL). Thanks to
Jerry McK for meistering and to the tiers for tying. Chuck

THE ANTS CRAWLED ALL THE WAY TO HOOSIERLAND TOO.

A great batch of ants. Including the 'Bamy ant.

Ditto on the thanks to Jerry McK for hosting.

And thanks to all for participating.
