Hi,

Still here! Eel skin is nice stuff. Dutch flytier Jan Reniers has used it a lot
for different patterns, and he has a page on Hans' Flytier site.

I use it for Muddler type flies, and sub the wing with eel skin. You cut a
canoo shaped wing from the skin, fold it in half lenghtwise, and split the end
along the fold. Next you tie in the other end and you make the head out of
sculpin wool or deer hair. Like so:
http://home.planet.nl/~westb001/Eelskinmuddl.html
and mini versions (scroll down on same page) are great flies, too.

When they are cured correlty they should not smell too much. Most of the times
they will remain supple, but they should not be greasy.
After use, when the fly dries up, the eel skin will curl up like crazy, but
next time you fish the fly the curls will disappear when wet.
It's a nice pattern to fish in the dark as well because you will hear it
whizzing by: frrrrrllllll frrrrrrrrrrrllllll.

Come to think of it - I'll send you some, Neville! I cured a batch just before
we moved, to clear the fridge.

Mart

If Martin Westbeek is still on the list, he should be able to give you some
tips. He has tied with Eel Skin.

That's for sure. I learned a lot from you and many of the other I've met
over the years. Along with all those fly swaps on VFB, FF@ and various web
sites I've hung out on. I still trying to figure out what to do with the eel
skin I picked up last January. A minnow pattern made totally out of the skin.
I wonder if it gives off a scent when rehydrated?

  Jerry,
You livened my memory, it was Seven Springs PA. That was the first time we
met. I still remember that grin when you introduced yourself to me.
The show moved to Seacaucus N.J. then to Somerset. Those were some good
times. Lot of water under the bridge since then.

  Tony:
I drove out to the show when it was held at 7 Springs to meet you and Hans
W. I think it moved to Bayonne the following year or the next one and then
finally settled in Somerset. Wayne, I'll see you Saturday. I'm looking for my
club name tag so I know who I am.

Say Hello to Jerry for me. I think that is where we first met many years ago.

I'll be there Saturday. I'll be tying at some point, probably during the
afternoon, at the South Jersey Coastal Fly Anglers table. Stop by. It's
always good to place faces to names.
