Jack:

In the “good old days’ I used to buy “Perfection” snake guides made in USA but
later, some that I purchased were labelled made in Mexico. In this part of the
world I don’t see perfection guides much any more. The late Dave Lewis used Pac
Bay guides for his custom rods & spoke well of them. I can remember replacing
guides on Taiwan made rods for friends - the snake guides were soft and wore
prematurely. I have a Swedish Guideline double-hander for steelhead which came
with REC titanium single foot snakes which were no end of trouble as they
frequently fractured at the end of the loop near the foot. I took this up with
Guideline, but ended up cutting them all off and replacing with fairly large
Snake Brand snakes. This unfortunately marred the finish of the rod slightly
despite matching the thread colour etc. - so I don’t use it as much as I used
to, but so far no more breakage problems. I can recommend English Hopkins &
Holloway guides which have been used by Sage for a long time.

I would use Pac Bay simply because of Dave Lewis’s recommendation. I always try
to buy good quality as I think that it does pay off in the long run.

The older I get, the better I was!
