Tony and all, not about hooks, but an update. This coming week we will be headed to Tucson for surgery on my pancreatic cancer at the VA hospital there. I apologize for not keeping up with folks but we have had an interesting few years pat. That includes a few computer losses and lost emails and contacts. Yes, I did mean "balanced" rather than suspended. There is some popularity for that pattern here in Oregon and northern California. Good to hear that there is really no difference in effectiveness of the hooks (using different extension angles) when you suspending the pattern below and indicator. Here's a sample of a balanced version of one of my flies Bastardo Bugger as tied by a friend. I think what I need to do to improve hooking qualities are to move the angled hookeye as far forward as possible, use at least a tungsten bead, and also to use a wider gape hook, like Neville suggested. These balanced patterns are definitely not my favorite way to tie, but they do merit a place in the flybox. At least *until further notice*.
