At my previous residence i had a 150 gallon aquarium that I "tank-tested" flies in. Holding flies in front of pump jets was very informative as to how flies reacted to shifting currents. I had wild chubs for a while and it was interesting that a certain orange eye from Witchcraft, no other color, drove them nuts with agression. They would attack a mylar minnow with this color eye relentlessly until I removed it from the tank. I also had flies that were very different than I pictured them underwater, and flies that were flops when submerged. Some flies flipped over, some needed tuning, and some looked just like the real thing. I highly recommend seeing your fly creations as the fish see them, at their level and below the surface.
