Jamieson, how is it going? Do you have your flies tied yet for my swap?
They are do to me by Friday. Now in response to your question about mylar
minnows. I recently tied some of these up for the very first time. Mine
float. This is what I do. Use a tmc 300 hook. Take some craft foam and cut
into a rectangle approximately 3/4 wide by 1 long. Roll it up into a roll,
like a burrito. Take some 3/0 thread and bind it to the hook, tight enough
but not to tight that you collapse the foam. Do all this after you attach
the mylar in the front of the hook. Bak the mylar back over the foam to the
back of the fly. Tie off tightly at above the barb of the hook. Ti in your
marabou tail. Your almost done. Using five minute epoxy mix up a batch of
epoxy, mix equal parts and mix it well. Spread a light coat of epoxy all
over the fly. Make sure you put some over the thread wraps binding down the
marabou, this will lock it in. After they have dried, I put a coat of sally
hansens hard as nails clear nail polish over the entire body. You can then
paint them. I painted mine to resemble floating rapala. Went to the rapala
website for the color charts. I also tie mine leaving out the foam and
slipping a glass rattle in the mylar, makes a rattling noise as it is
swimming. I am going to fish my floating ones on a sinking line over
seedbeds. The fly will then swim at a suspended depth just like the rapala
husky jerks. If you want I can send one of mine to you with your swap flies.

Let me know how your swap flies are coming.
