I have an Old Town 169 -- that has a lot of miles on it -- it is virtually indestructible -- a great river canoe too if you ever want to travel some moving water.  When I'm doing overnight trips with gear in the bottom of the canoe -- I put the spray skirt on it and my dog hangs out on top of the spray skirt.

A friend of mine has the exact same canoe -- he bought a bracket from Old Town and rigged it with a small motor.

If you do purchase a canoe and have the option of cane seats -- get them -- they require more maintenance than plastic -- but they will keep your butt drier.

If you're fishing in lakes -- you will also want two anchors -- one for the bow and one for the stern -- keeps the wind from blowing you around and around and around.

Subject: [VFB] canoe

I am looking into buying a canoe for fishing the small ponds and backwaters. Anyone have any suggestions? I plan on using a transom mounted trolling motor for go power and would like to know what you all think.
Cabelas has a setup to mount the trolling motor, battery box and trailer. All I need to do is find a canoe. not to big to be a burden, not to small to be pocket sized.
