dear panfish
, roe is bait , it is fish eggs it has to come from a dead fish you have to kill the fish first in order to get the eggs. some people abuse the process and kill the fish just for its eggs so they can catch fish. and then there are those that kill the fish and utilize the meat but still use the eggs for bait, there is nothing wrong with this practise, furtermore i think it is great that you are enjoying the sport while using bait just remember that fish tend to inhale bait and a catch and release effort is not a good practise when the hook lands in the stomach or further down the mouth, the fish could die after release so if you decide to use bait then a good practise would be catch only what you need to eat and then go back andf fish another day . fly fishing is another means of catching fish just a litlle more challenging and there are hooks that have no barbs you can also pinch the barbs off and catch and release is a little easier to do with a fly. now my explenation is a little broad but hope you get the meaning behind it, have fun

I haven't fished with roe but from the information I am gathering would someone please tell me what the different is from fishing with roe and fishing with a bobber and a worm on the end of a hook or how about a cricket or grasshopper? I do not know about everybody on this board but I was not taught how to fish on an expensive fly fishing outfit. In fact my father( I am only 15) still barely knows anything about fly fishing although he has his own rod which he never uses. I learned about the fishing sport as a kid by an extendable 12' fiberglass pole and a bobber with a cricket or grasshopper or worm. This is also bait fishing right? If it wasn't for bait fishing how many of us would even know the joys of this wonderful sport? I am not purposely instigating a heated discussion between us here but I just felt like some of us would understand all of this a little better if this point was addressed. Thank you for your patience
