This isn't a fair question I carry... I don't know how may flies and ya got'a try 'em.

Small creeks: dry flies - WWM,  teamed with the Mikuluk Sedge, use for searching when I don't see anything on the water. Sometimes a dropper with Bitch Creek or small bead head GRHE. Also be pressed into service on large rivers.

Lakes: Duster minnows, Double backs, Sparkle Doctors, Matukas, Doc Spratleys, Green Montana and of course the Woolly Buggers (green). These can all be shifted over to large rivers.

Calm days

Hi folks,

I am putting together the "Ultimate" little flybox for one of my friends
who is just getting into the sport. I would like to start a string on
your favorite go-to trout fly.	This would be the first one that you would
try when working unknown water or just plainly your favorite fly to fish.
Suggestions of a dry dropper combo would be great also.

He will be fishing mainly western rivers/lakes (Utah/Idaho).

I put my favorite as Scott Sanchez Convertible(sz 10) with a pheasant tail
nymph (sz 18) dropper.

Thanks,

Jeremy
